From the shadows cast on the cave wall to today's glowing screens, humanity has always chased the same story: seeking the truth behind what is shown.
Digital screens are not merely technological products; they are the modern digital copies of the patterns that the human mind has carried in its collective consciousness for thousands of years.
In ancient mythologies, there was the all seeing eye of the gods or pools of prophecy; humans defined themselves through the gaze of the other. Today, modern screens assume precisely this role. When we get lost in social media feeds, what we look at is not just pixels, but the digitized form of humanity's ancient desire to "be seen and validated."
The screen is the modern human's mirror, yet this mirror, much like Narcissus leaning over the water to watch his own disappearance, draws us into a rapidly consuming illusion. While ancient myths featured sorcerers or sirens seducing humans with their voices, today's algorithms make that exact same mythological call through screens with flawless design.
Ancient myths were passed down slowly from generation to generation, taking root in minds. Today, however, mythological patterns (the hero's journey, the victim, the savior, the underworld) have transformed into formats consumed in seconds within Hollywood films, TV series, and social media feeds.
Yet, no matter how much the form changes, the essence remains the same. Even though modern screens have turned into illusion machines that rapidly polish and extinguish humanity's quest for meaning, the deep roots beneath those ancient images are still intact. The moment we can look past the glossy surface shown to us by the screen, we see that modern stories are actually just echoes of that thousands of year old root story in a modern language.
And the ultimate question remains: Are screens putting us to sleep while showing us the world, or are they completely disconnecting us from our ancient reality and trapping us inside a new myth?
