Amidst the rush of the day, we always set big goals for ourselves, long to do lists, and routes to chase. Yet a significant portion of our lives actually passes by simply "waiting" without doing anything.
Those thirty seconds spent waiting for a traffic light to turn from red to green... That silent moment when we press the elevator button and watch the cabin glide down from above... Or the minutes spent just staring into space by the stove until the tea water boils. For us, waiting is impatience, a waste of time. We immediately pull our phones out of our pockets and fill that void.
So, where do our thoughts escape to in those rare moments when we aren't looking at that screen or hearing the sound of a phone?
Oddly enough, the day's most creative ideas, silliest memories, or long-forgotten details always cross our minds in those interim stops. During that mandatory pause, our brains get the chance to step out of "task mode" and dive into their own inner world. Those who question the direction of life while standing under a traffic light, or those who suddenly find a solution to an unresolved issue while waiting for an elevator, are always in those brief intervals.
Perhaps life isn't just about the major destinations we reach by running. The real story is hidden in those interim stops, stuck between two tasks, to which we haven't even given a name.
Sometimes, stopping is an act just as philosophical as going. And perhaps more than anything, we need to be able to hear the voice of that waiting.
